Caught In The Crowd - Chapter 9: Someone Who Understands...

I don't have much to say. Here's the next chapter darlings. Enjoy:

                                                                      * * * * *
Justin was standing in the middle of the living area, phone to his ear. I'm going to guess he was on the phone to Selena. Scooter patted his shoulder but got his hand smacked away. Umm… ouch? What the hell could possibly have Justin this worked up?
I stood to the side, next to Pattie and watched Justin shout into his phone. I could hear the faint mumbling of Selena shouting back at him. Pattie sighed and shook her head.
"I knew this would happen." She murmured to Scooter, who had appeared next to me.
He nodded. "Did you tell (YN)?"
She shrugged. "I told her what Justin needs."
"And what do you think, (YN)?" He asked, looking down at me.
"He's got himself a girlfriend, remember?" I mumbled. I didn't like this conversation.
Scooter nodded slowly. "Yes, he does. But the fact is, we think you'd be better for him."
"Not to sound rude, but isn't that more his choice than yours?" I said cautiously.
"Couldn't be more right, (YN). It is my choice." I heard Justin snap.
"You don't think that she could be…" Scooter started.
"(YN)'s awesome, but I get to choose who I date!" Justin shouted over the top of him.
"She's got everything on Selena…" Scooter said quietly.
"She's got nothing on Selena!" He shouted.
Not particularly sure why, but that felt like he'd just slapped me across the face. What he'd said was true, but still… I felt Chaz, Christian and Ryan's eyes staring at me. Their mouths were all opened slightly in shock.
All the anger suddenly drained from Justin's face. "Oh damn it, (YN), I didn't mean it like that." He said apologetically.
I shrugged and smiled slightly. "It's cool."
"Told ya. She's a saint." I heard Ryan mutter to Chaz while Christian and Chaz both passed him five dollars.
Justin sighed. "Okay, good." He then smiled. "Want me to take you home?"
"You can in a minute. Justin, a word?" Pattie said and pulled him into the kitchen.
I leant against the back of the couch, watching the other three play a new game. It was probably Halo or something…
"(YN), come on." Justin said, smiling happily as he came back into the living area.
I shook my head. "Don't worry about it. I can walk."
"I'll walk with you then." He replied with a smile.
Scooter disappeared and Pattie left for the kitchen again, but not before she patted my hand and gave me a reassuring smile. Chaz, Christian and Ryan were arguing about changing the game again, leaving Justin standing there, looking at me expectantly.
I smiled and shook my head again. "It's nice that you're all gentlemanly and stuff, but I'm capable of walking home without you."
He rolled his eyes. "Right, I'm coming. Deal with it." Once I'd said goodbye to everyone, he opened the door and gestured towards it. "Ladies first."
I rolled my eyes but went through. "Wow, I'm impressed…" I murmured.
"What is?" He asked, taking my hand and leading me down the stairs.
"Your hair." I smirked. He looked at me shocked and I just laughed. "Nah, just kidding. Your politeness is impressive. The surprised sort of shock though."
He grinned. "Mom trained me pretty well."
I laughed. "Yeah, I'll say…"
"Sorry about before. You really are awesome and you've got some stuff on Selena. I just don't like it when people try and set me up…" He trailed off.
"Yeah, my sister does it. Annoying, huh?" I agreed.
"Well, I'm glad someone understands it." He chuckled. "It was just sort of weird because they'd only known you for a day and a half." He explained.
"Agreed." I nodded.
"Another thing, you'll have to guide me because I've forgotten where you live." He said and smiled slightly. I simply nodded. He smiled again. "Anyway, Mom was saying to me before that…" He trailed off.
I shot him a look and turned his face away from me. "You were staring and what did your mom say?"
He blushed. "Was I really staring?" He asked, embarrassed.
I laughed softly. "Yes. And stop changing the subject. What did Pattie say?"
He looked at the ground. "Uh… nothing. Don't worry about it."
"Aww, come on. Tell me." I begged.
He just shook his head. "I'll tell you when the time is right."
I sighed. "What is with your family and mysteries?"
First Pattie's all worried about Justin and she won't tell me why. Now, Justin wouldn't tell me what Pattie said. This family clearly enjoys keeping secrets. Don't start to say something if you're not gunna finish it!
"We like mysteries." Justin said simply.
"I don't." I whined.
He laughed. "I'll tell you later."
"No you won't." I muttered, more to myself than him.
"You're right. I won't." He chuckled and stopped at my front door. He leant in and placed his lips against my cheek, I froze while he pulled me into a hug. "See you later, Shawty." He murmured against my shoulder.
"Bye Justin." I said quietly and let myself into the house. Ugh, why did he give me butterflies?
